Mass Zoom layoffs are becoming more common and they’re making headlines. Since the end of 2021, several businesses have fired their employees virtually. Better.com laid off 900 workers over Zoom. “If you're on this call, you're part of the unlucky group being laid off,” said Vishal Garg, the company's CEO. Carvana and Klarna did the same with 2,500 and 700 workers, respectively. Mass job cuts have always existed, but as we move toward a more digital and online world of work, those hired and working virtually might also be fired like that. Professor Hayden Woodley considers firing people in groups without a direct conversation “a combination of two bad practices that shouldn't be done in the first place.”
